Personal settings

What computer settings do I need in order to display the webpage correctly?

Please use a browser version of recent Firefox-Mozilla or of Internet Explorer not minor to IE 7.x. The minimal screen resolution should be 1074x768 pixel.

  1. How can I change my profile settings (e. g. email address, mail address, language, etc.)?
    • Navigate to the ‘My account’ page and click on the ‘Edit’ tab.
    • Make the desired changes.
    • Scroll down and save the changes.

  2. How can I change my password?
    • Navigate to the ‘My account’ page and click on the 'Edit' tab.
    • Scroll down to the two 'password' fields. Write your new password a first time int the first field and confirm it a second time in the second field. Then click on "Save" at the bottom of the page.

  3. How do I clear my browser’s cookies?

    Sometimes, due to the way browsers work, you may need to clear your browser's cookies in order for Mandarin Strokes to work more efficiently. For an updated instruction, please check this browser's own help section for instructions on deleting cookies.

    To clear cookies in IE 7.x for Windows:

    • In the ‘Tools’ menu, select ‘Delete Browsing History’ from the pull-down menu
    • In the middle section, click on the ‘Delete Cookies’ button. A popup window will appear; press ‘Yes’ in this window to delete the cookies
    • Click on the ‘Delete Files’ button. A pop-up window will appear; press ‘Yes’ in this window to delete temporary internet files
    • Click on the ‘Close’ button in the ‘Delete Browsing History’ window
    • Quit and restart the browser for the changes to take effect.

    To clear cookies in FireFox 2.x for Windows or Mac:

    • Click the ‘Tools’ menu
    • Select ‘Clear Private Data’ from the pull-down menu
    • In the window that opens, select the items you want to clear - in this case, Cookies
    • Click ‘Clear Private Data Now’
    • Quit and restart the browser for the changes to take effect.

    To clear cookies in Safari 3 for Mac:

    • Click the ‘Safari’ menu and select ‘Preferences’
    • Click the ‘Security’ tab, and click ‘Show Cookies’
    • Click ‘Remove all’ to clear all cookies or click a specific cookie in the list and click ‘Remove’
    • Click ‘Done’
    • Quit and restart the browser for the changes to take effect.

    To clear cookies in Opera 9.x for Windows:

    • In the ‘Tools’ menu, click ‘Delete private data’
    • Click ‘Details’
    • Check the boxes beside ‘Delete all cookies’ and ‘Delete entire cache’
    • Click ‘Delete’
    • Quit and restart the browser for the changes to take effect.

    • characters are presented with grey shaded background, which you easily can trace to guide you through a first approach to write a character

  2. Why does the indicated vocabulary of this dictionary seem to be reduced compared to other online dictionaries?

    With good intention, the meanings shown in this dictionary concentrate on the basic meanings of each individual character based on their present day application. On purpose, we renounced on showing all a character’s meanings in combination with other characters here (which often exceed more than 20 or 30 meanings). This shall help you to not become confused by too many different expressions. Instead, it will enable you to understand how these basic meanings are influencing the character’s significance in other combinations.

    To enhance the current dictionary a supplement is currently being worked on that will provide a separate listing of character combinations.

  3. How can teachers use the practice sheet to create exam papers or other practice sheets?

III. Subscription and Payment

 
  1. Is Mandarin Strokes free?

    The access and use of our stroke order dictionary of over 6000 characters is available for free.

    To access the premium version, this means the following functions, a purchase of one of our various subscription plans (15 days, 3 month, 6 month and 12 month) is required, which allows you an individualized learning schedule. These functions embrace:

    • your use of the practice sheet manager to create your individual practice sheets
    • mnemonics, that we update constantly
    • the access to your personal NOTEBOOK (where you can save already learnt characters for review and as a personal progress report)
    • interactive exercises (allowing you to practice writing characters)

  2. Payment Methods

    Subscriptions and books can be purchased through Paypal (which includes credit card payment) or by direct credit card payment. For other transaction forms, please contact us by english@mandarinstrokes.com informing us about details of your location and the payment methods available to you. Based on this, we can suggest an alternative solution.

  3. How can I cancel my recurrent subscription?

    You may cancel the Subscription for the periods of 15 days, 3 months, 6 months and 12 months at the earliest two days after subscribing and at the latest two days before the date of expiry of your subscription plan.

    Your cancelation shall be made by clicking the UNSUBSCRIBE-button in MY ACCOUNT > VIEW  or by email to English@mandarinstrokes.com. Please check that you receive a confirmation email from our side. When your subscription is cancelled you will still be able to access our services until your account runs out of credit. After cancellation, Mandarinbiz Ltd. will discontinue billing for this particular subscription. If no cancelation has taken place, Mandarinbiz Ltd. will automatically renew your subscription for the same time period that you subscribed before.

  4. Is it possible to get a refund?

    Refunds will be granted proportionally to the days of use of the subscription. A full refund can be granted until 7 days after subscription start. For every refund a service charge of 7% (a  minimum of 2.50US$) is deducted from the refundable sum. Refunds can be granted only for subscription plans of 3, 6 and 12 months (not for 15 days-plans).

  5. How can I obtain an official invoice?

    You will obtain an official invoice with each of your purchases by email.
